This summer, there has been two children who I've been able to see God clearly working in. We'll call them A and D.
A is a little girl who is VERY interested in learning about God, but doesn't have much of an understanding. Her understanding seems to just be opening up. Whenever there is movie days, one group will go to the movie, but the other two will stay behind. With those who stay behind, we have "Bible Club!" A walked up to me and Emily after the first Bible Club and told us that she doesn't have a Bible. We told her that it was okay, but she was really stuck on this fact. She told us multiple times within the coming days. A few days before this started, Emily had found some Bibles at the Christian book store nearby and had bought a few to be able to give out. We decided to give her one, and to say she was excited would be an understatement. It took a lot of convincing to get her to leave her Bible to go outside that day. She also said she took it home and shared it with her sister. A also is very eager to memorize any verses we're willing to teach her and LOVES it when we, as teachers, ask her to practice her verses for us. I am really encouraged to see her love for God, which is so genuine and pure in the eyes of a child.
D is another little girl who is 10-years-old. The other day, during Bible club, we had the kids write letters to God saying thank you, or whatever else they wanted to say (as per suggestion of an 8-year-old boy). So, while they were writing these letters I was walking around. As I walked past D, I saw what she had written in her letter, and began to cry. It said something to the effect of, "Dear God, I love you. I love you because you gave me a new family, when I had lost my old one. Because you gave me a family, I will love you and worship you every day. Thank you." Later in the day, I was able to play some card games with her one on one and talked to her about her story. She was adopted from China when she was 1 year old, and has a younger sister who also was adopted from China. Just seeing her heart, and thankfulness to God for the family she was given made my heart sing, and I pray God is doing the same work in all the precious kiddo's I was able to cross paths with last summer.
I love seeing God through the eyes of these precious children.
