Sunday night, Emily, a fellow team leader (who I really like), and I went to Panera to work on Bible study. After a day at the beach, during which I intended to work on Bible study but actually got very little done (but enjoyed myself, don't you worry!) I was more than happy to go to Panera with her when she asked. I thought it would just be a quiet night together with the two of us at Panera, but God was orchestrating something bigger.
We arrived at Panera and sat down in a booth and talked for a while. We were in that booth for all of 5 minutes, before it got too hot because the sun was beaming through the window, and it was shining in our eyes, so we moved over to another table nearby a young couple with their child and another lady. When we sat down, we got our stuff back out to begin working on Bible study. We set out our binders, and heard the girl at the table next to us say something about how she was glad she wasn't in school (a sentiment you college students can easily understand). Then we proceeded to open up our Bibles, and she leaned over and asked us if our class used the Bible.
And so began our conversation with Jenny and Dawn.
We explained who were are and why we are here in Jacksonville for the summer. Then, we ended up talking to them for nearly 2 hours about life and God. Specifically we talked with them about how to share their faith with some family members who are not believers. It was an especially great opportunity for Emily to share some of her own life experience, as well as I got to talk with Jenny (who is 20) about growing up in the church, but not really knowing God until I was older and chose to walk with Him instead of just knowing about Him.
We ended the conversation (almost an hour AFTER Panera had closed) by exchanging our contact information. We invited Jenny and Dawn both to text us and are really hoping to be able to get together sometime over the next few weeks to read the Bible with one or both of them.
After they had left, Emily and I began to talk about what had just happened, and then realized that both of us had been praying prior to coming down for the summer that we would make a connection with someone who lives in Jacksonville and be able to meet and read the Bible with them this summer.
He is faithful, and His ways are greater than anything we could ever dream up ourselves.
Isaiah 55:9, "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your way and my thoughts than your thoughts."
